Very Late: New Year Resolutions

Way back in January, (I know, can you believe it is March ALREADY!), the site hosted a New Year Resolution ATC swap. We had some fantastic resolutions for 2010. I am quite tardy in posting the images for this swap. I'm sure FaithMarie - who is in charge of the current site-hosted Fish 4x4 swap - will post the images much sooner than three months after the end of the swap. Now, with out more carrying on....

Cereal Box Background Technique

One of our members sent us this great technique for creating interesting and textured backgrounds for your ATCs (or really, anything you wanted). Mary (Tannermom) writes:

One of my favorite techniques for making ATC's is to start with a "Motherboard" collage, then cut the board into the 2-1/2 x 3-1/2" sizes for my ATC's.

You will be happily surprised at the wonderful backgrounds that come out of this technique.

1.) Start with a piece of 8" x 12" (or any other like size) of light cardboard (I use cereal boxes) or heavy paper.

2.) Glue tissue paper, scrapbook pieces, string, and little things cut out of magazines to make one big collage. There does not have to be a theme yet, just use what materials you have.

3.) Cut it into the size for your ATCs.

On top of your background, you can add more embellishments to finish your ATC for whatever project you need them for.

Confused at this point? Please don't hesitate to contact me; I'll be glad to help.

Thanks Mary! You have inspired us with a great new way to create fantastically textured backgrounds.

Techniques and such...

Happy New Year members!

FaithMarie and I have been talking about opening the blog to member submissions. If you have a great technique, tutorial, video, cool art site, or question you would like to share on the blog e-mail it to us at webmaster@artfortytwo.org.

If you want to add pictures or video to your post please make sure to include them or links to them and where they should go. Also, feel free to include a brief bio/links to your site etc.

As long as your submission is art related or educational we will probably post it. If it wouldn't be of interest to our members we probably won't post it. Easy enough right?

Also, our lovely and delightful member Nicci set up a flicker pool for Art Forty-Two members. If you use flicker here is another great way to share some eye candy with other members (besides on our facebook fan page and the site.)

We hope you all have a fantastic end of 2009 and here's to a faboo 2010.

This was a fantastic swap and everyone did such a great job. We had so much fun looking at all the unique ideas. It was tough to pick samples to post but here is some inspiration for future swap. Keep up the fabulous work and stay creative.
