Cereal Box Background Technique

One of our members sent us this great technique for creating interesting and textured backgrounds for your ATCs (or really, anything you wanted). Mary (Tannermom) writes:

One of my favorite techniques for making ATC's is to start with a "Motherboard" collage, then cut the board into the 2-1/2 x 3-1/2" sizes for my ATC's.

You will be happily surprised at the wonderful backgrounds that come out of this technique.

1.) Start with a piece of 8" x 12" (or any other like size) of light cardboard (I use cereal boxes) or heavy paper.

2.) Glue tissue paper, scrapbook pieces, string, and little things cut out of magazines to make one big collage. There does not have to be a theme yet, just use what materials you have.

3.) Cut it into the size for your ATCs.

On top of your background, you can add more embellishments to finish your ATC for whatever project you need them for.

Confused at this point? Please don't hesitate to contact me; I'll be glad to help.

  2. I often get more of a kick doing the preparation than the actual ATC or whatever.
I spent one day gathering all the doll images I had and then collaged them and cut it up to various sizes?!! What fun! Going to do it again with other subjects. I have so many images in nice fat folders!! Bldgs, holidays, animals, etc....maybe even text and sheet music....ideas are endless!!!

  3. This is a wonderfull example! I also love doing my backgrounds this way as well! I work in stages because one week I may feel like drawing and the next I may want to do some collage work and play in glue!
